Types of parts suitable for CNC machining

CNC is suitable for processing parts that are complex, have many processes, have high requirements, require various types of ordinary machine tools and many tool fixtures, and can only be processed after multiple clamping and adjustments. The main objects of its processing are box-type parts, complex curved surfaces, special-shaped parts, plate-type parts and special processing.

Box parts

Box parts generally refer to parts with more than one hole system, a cavity inside, and a certain proportion in the length, width, and height directions. Such parts are widely used in machine tools, automobiles, aircraft manufacturing and other industries. Box parts generally require multi-station hole system and plane processing, and the tolerance requirements are relatively high, especially the shape and position tolerance requirements are relatively strict. Usually, they need to go through milling, drilling, expanding, boring, reaming, countersinking, tapping and other processes. , requires many tools, it is difficult to process on ordinary machine tools, the number of tooling sets is high, the cost is high, the processing cycle is long, multiple clamping and alignment are required, manual measurements are many times, tools must be replaced frequently during processing, and the process is difficult to formulate , and more importantly, the accuracy is difficult to guarantee.

For CNC processing box-type parts, when there are many processing stations and the parts need to be rotated multiple times by the worktable, the horizontal boring and milling CNC is generally selected. When there are fewer processing stations and the span is not large, vertical CNC can be selected to process from one end.

Complex surfaces

Complex curved surfaces occupy a particularly important position in the mechanical manufacturing industry, especially in the aerospace industry. It is difficult or even impossible to complete complex curved surfaces with ordinary machining methods. In our country, the traditional method is to use precision casting, and it is conceivable that its precision is low. Complex curved surface parts such as: various impellers, wind deflectors, spherical surfaces, various curved surface forming molds, propellers and propellers of underwater vehicles, and some other shapes of free-form surfaces. These parts can be processed by CNC. The more typical ones are as follows:

Cam, cam mechanism

As the basic element of mechanical information storage and transmission, it is widely used in various automatic machines. Such parts include disc cams with various curves, cylindrical cams, conical cams, barrel cams, end cams, etc. To process such parts, three-axis, four-axis linkage or five-axis linkage CNC can be selected according to the complexity of the cam.

Integral impeller

Such parts are commonly found in compressors of aero-engines, expanders of oxygen-generating equipment, single-screw air compressors, etc. For such profiles, CNCs with more than four axes can be used to complete them.

Mold class

Such as injection molds, rubber molds, vacuum forming plastic molds, refrigerator foam molds, pressure casting molds, precision casting molds, etc. Using CNC to process molds, due to the high concentration of processes, the finishing of key parts such as dynamic molds and static molds is basically completed in one installation, which can reduce the cumulative error of dimensions and reduce the workload of repairs. At the same time, the reproducibility of the mold is strong and the interchangeability is good. Machining leaves less work for the fitter, and where the tool is accessible, it should be done by machining as much as possible, so that the workload of the mold fitter mainly lies in polishing.

Spherical

CNC milling available. Three-axis milling can only use a ball end mill for approximation processing, which is less efficient. Five-axis milling can use an end mill as an envelope surface to approach a spherical surface. When complex curved surfaces are processed by CNC, the programming workload is relatively large, and most of them require automatic programming technology.

Shaped parts

Special-shaped parts are parts with irregular shapes, and most of them require mixed processing of points, lines and surfaces. The rigidity of special-shaped parts is generally poor, the clamping deformation is difficult to control, and the machining accuracy is also difficult to guarantee. Even some parts of some parts are difficult to complete with ordinary machine tools. When machining with CNC, reasonable technological measures should be adopted, one or two clamping, and the characteristics of CNC multi-station point, line and surface mixed processing should be used to complete multiple processes or all process contents.

Disk, sleeve, plate parts

Disc sleeves or shaft parts with keyways, or radial holes, or distributed holes on the end surface, curved surfaces, such as shaft sleeves with flanges, shaft parts with keyways or square heads, etc., and more holes Processed plate parts, such as various motor covers, etc. Disc parts with distributed holes and curved surfaces on the end face should choose vertical CNC, and those with radial holes can choose horizontal CNC.

Special processing

After mastering the functions of CNC proficiently, with certain tooling and special tools, CNC can be used to complete some special craft work, such as engraving characters, lines, and patterns on metal surfaces; installing high-frequency electric sparks on the spindle of CNC The power supply can perform line scanning surface quenching on the metal surface; the high-speed grinding head can be installed with CNC to realize small modulus involute bevel gear grinding and grinding of various curves and curved surfaces.
